Software Management System
Callidus LLC, Delmar, Md, introduces Aladin, a sleep laboratory software management system. Designed by Germany’s LUU Connect Systems, Aladin has been operating in European sleep laboratories since 1997. Aladin offers appointment scheduling, inventory management, and automatic sleep data collection. The system eliminates the need for multiple entries with its ability to universally update files. It can generate lists based on the criteria of your choice. Based on the IBM DB2® database, Aladin can be networked into any system. This software provides an import/export function, which eliminates the need to reenter information. It also provides the ability to import all data that the laboratory currently uses and has used in the past. (800) 372-3175; www.callidusllc.com.

 Automated Sleep Stager
Grass-Telefactor Product Group, Astro-Med Inc, West Warwick, RI, introduces the Fully Automated Sleep Stager (FASS™), an add-on analysis module for existing TWin® PSG review software. FASS software identifies standard Rechtschaffen and Kales sleep stages automatically, deriving information from various parameters of the EEG, EOG, and chin EMG. With FASS, a sleep study is completely staged in less than 1 minute. The comprehensive user interface of FASS permits changing some of the staging parameter thresholds and rules, as well as default settings. Amplitude and EEG frequency trends, such as delta and alpha percentage trends and chin EMG amplitude trends, are also computed and can be displayed on the PSG timeline along with the sleep staging hypnogram. FASS creates a fully staged study that can be reviewed, modified, and exported to a standard report. (877) 472-7779; www.grass-telefactor.com.

 Bruxism Screening Device
Great Lakes Orthodontics Ltd, Tonawanda, NY, introduces the BiteStrip™, a single-use home screening device that can identify the existence and frequency of bruxism. An alternative to formal sleep and EMG studies, the low-cost, easy-to-use device can be used to prepare for and evaluate bruxing therapy, treatment of a malocclusion, occlusal restoration, snoring and sleep apnea treatment, and temporomandibular joint pain therapies. It contains a micro CPU that operates real-time acquisition and analysis software designed to detect and count EMG signals from the masticatory muscles while a person sleeps. A score representing a range of events is recorded on the permanent display. The score, interpreted by the doctor, indicates the existence and frequency of bruxing.
