The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) is currently looking for volunteers to support the work of the BRPT Education Committee and the Professional Review Committee.

The Education Committee, chaired by Laura Linley, CRT, RPSGT, FAAST, is committed to encouraging formal education programs for sleep technologists. In doing so, the committee oversees the Sleep Technology Approved Resource (STAR) program. STAR-designated programs fall into one of three categories: the self-study programs; focused programs that include both self-study or expanded classroom education and on-site skills training; and focused 2 programs that require at least 80 hours of lecture and on-site skills training and must be paired with a self-study program to meet exam eligibility requirements.

The Education Committee is responsible for reviewing all new STAR program applications and, if accepted, approving the curriculum for those programs. At least two committee members review each application, and those committee members must hold the credentials that the STAR program represents.

The Professional Review Committee, chaired by Michael McLeland PhD, RPSGT, ensures credential holders adhere to the CPSGT, RPSGT, and CCSH professional conduct standards.

The committee comprises technologists from all over the country and one public member. The mission of the Professional Review Committee is to ensure all technologists meet the high standards expected in healthcare services. When the BRPT receives a complaint, the committee reviews the details and investigates both sides before the committee deliberates and makes a ruling.

BRPT is seeking assistance from active RPSGTs with particular interests or experience in either of these areas.

Expectations:

  • Volunteers must be active RPSGT credential holders.
  • Volunteers must have experience and/or a particular interest in the committee to which they apply.
  • Volunteers are expected to respond in a timely manner to requests from the BRPT chair.
  • Volunteers are expected to participate in conference calls when necessary.

Those interested are asked to send an email with a resume/CV to [email protected] and include either Education Committee” or “Professional Review Committee” in the subject line.
