A pillow designed to relieve the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD, or acid reflux) has won a patent seven years after its invention by an Atlanta woman who, herself, suffers from acid reflux.

The pillow is particularly effective at improving sleep quality, says Adele Camens, who invented the MedSlant (www.medslant.com) pillow which, she says, eliminates heartburn and the need for nighttime medication.

Camens gave the pillow a wedged design that elevates the entire upper torso and uses gravity to keep acid out of the esophagus. Camens says she has slept symptom-free for the last seven years and adds that the product has earned the endorsement of medical doctors.

"The pillow has improved my quality of life in several ways," says Todd Hold, MD, a physician who stepped up to support the product. "Besides the relief from reflux, I no longer have back pain in the morning and I have noticed that I don’t have sinus congestion headaches either."

MedSlant promotes and easier sleep by providing easier breathing during cold and flu season, Adele says. The pillow also supplies relief to those who suffer from asthma, allergies, sinus problems, snoring, sleep apnea and a host of other conditions.

The pillow is available with an allergen barrier and mite-proof encasement. When unfolded the MedSlant is 24 inches wide, seven inches high and 32 inches long.
