Sleep centers that furnish CPAP masks to Medicare and Medicaid patients should be aware of a change in how some items are coded for billing. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has issued new “K” codes for oral/mask use with CPAP devices.
The following codes will be added:
- K0553—Combination oral/nasal mask, used with continuous positive airway pressure device, each;
- K0554—Oral cushion for combination oral/nasal mask, replacement only, each; and
- K0555—Nasal pillows for combination oral/nasal mask, replacement only, pair.
The codes will be effective July 1, 2007.
