Called Physician Compare, the latest Web site launched by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) expands and updates the organization’s Healthcare Provider Directory. The new tool expands the doctor-specific information into the suite of informational tools for Medicare beneficiaries and other consumers.

Mandated by the Affordable Care Act of 2010, the new site provides information about a physician’s practice, specialty, and schooling; it also shows consumers whether the practice reported certain data to CMS through the Physician Quality Reporting System, formerly known as the Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI).

In future years, Physician Compare will be expanded with information about the quality of care Medicare beneficiaries receive from physicians and other health care professionals profiled on the site.
