The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) launched its Continuing Sleep Technology Education (CSTE) Program for educational providers seeking continuing education credits for their offerings. The program is designed to meet the professional needs of sleep technicians and technologists.

“Continuing education is absolutely necessary to keeping techs current in our exciting and rapidly changing field,” said BRPT President Janice East, RPSGT, R. EEG T. “Through this new program, we will facilitate and expedite the approval of high quality continuing education opportunities from a wide range of qualified sources. And to further support the availability of CEC opportunities, BRPT will offer three free webinars to techs throughout the year.”

BRPT Board member and CSTE Program Coordinator Eddie Perez, RPSGT, added, “By simplifying the application process and offering a cost effective program, we’re encouraged [that] more qualified CEC providers—presenting opportunities both large and small—will help expand the number of available programs for techs.”

CSTE Program Overview
All educational programs considered for approval should be relevant to the scope of practice of sleep technologists, including the areas addressed by BRPT exam content and general sleep medicine education as well as new technology and its application in the delivery of sleep medicine. Courses and/or programs related to education, supervision, management, medical ethics, and the legal aspects of health care may also be acceptable.

Educational programs approved by BRPT must meet the following criteria:
• Planned and conducted by qualified individuals.
• Address an identified need within the sleep technology profession.
• Contain specific written learning objectives.
• Program content and instructional methods lead to specific learning objectives.
• An evaluation method is used to determine if the learning objectives were obtained.
