The Sarasota (Fla) County Sheriff’s Office is teaming up with the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) to promote Safe Sleep, a campaign to educate new parents about proper sleeping environments and to ask the public to support the initiative by donating brand new portable cribs for parents who can’t afford them.

So far this year, DCF has investigated nearly 150 infant deaths in Florida attributed to unsafe sleeping environments, including two in Sarasota County. In addition to promoting a safe sleeping environment and distributing materials county-wide in both English and Spanish, the public is encouraged to donate new portable cribs, pack ‘n plays, or bassinets that will be provided to parents who can’t afford them. Drop-off points are the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office Sarasota (2071 Ringling Blvd) and Venice (4531 State Road 776) locations.
