Brightree, a provider of cloud-based clinical, billing, and business management software solutions for the post-acute care industry, announced enhanced integration capabilities from its home medical equipment (HME) billing and business management solution with ResMed’s U-Sleep compliance solution. This expanded integration allows HME providers to benefit from a complete end-to-end solution for sleep therapy management from initial patient setup, through compliance, resupply, and electronic document storage, according to a release.

“As the healthcare industry transitions from a fee-for-service to an outcomes-based reimbursement model, providers are constantly seeking to improve patient outcomes and increase operational efficiencies,” says Dave Cormack, president and CEO of Brightree, in a release. “By expanding our integration capabilities with ResMed, HME providers can seamlessly monitor CPAP usage and compliance, create new efficiencies with automated resupply campaigns, improve their audit compliance, and ultimately deliver better patient outcomes.”

In 2013, Brightree and ResMed automated the onboarding of patients that use ResMed S9 PAP devices into U-Sleep. In 2014, the companies continued to add innovative capabilities that further automated workflows, including support for ResMed’s AirSense 10 PAP devices, including patient onboarding, reporting, and compliance notifications.

These latest enhancements include:

  • Integration with Brightree Connect: Enables providers to streamline resupply workflow with automated compliance notifications. Once a compliance notification is received from U-Sleep, patients can be automatically subscribed to pre-set resupply programs within Brightree, significantly reducing human intervention. Additionally, patient responses for ongoing compliance, required by some major payers, are stored in the patient’s record in Brightree and automated tasks for compliance teams can be created.
  • Integration with Brightree Document Management: Enables providers to automatically retrieve and store patient compliance reports from U-Sleep directly into Brightree Document Management for provider reference, audit compliance and easy communication to physician referral sources. Compliance report storage frequency can be configured so HMEs can automatically receive a download of an initial compliance report in addition to 30, 60, and 90-day reports.

“The integration with Brightree and ResMed’s U-Sleep has dramatically streamlined our workflow, which has led to increased efficiency and reduced time to reimbursement,” says Daniel Levy, operations manager at Grove Medical Equipment. “Patient information is automatically transferred to U-Sleep during setup and our billers can easily identify whether a patient has met insurance guidelines for compliance. The compliance reports are automatically pulled into Brightree, and tasks are created and assigned to staff members informing them when compliance is achieved, saving valuable time and improving cash flow.”

Brightree and ResMed also offer an AirView-Brightree integrated solution, which allows users to take advantage of key features of ResMed’s AirView patient compliance platform from within the Brightree solution. This gives HMEs a choice in integrated solutions to meet the unique demands of their business.
