A county’s child protective services manager writes into The Cap Times to clear up a falsehood about baby sleep environments and children being removed from their original households.

CPS and law enforcement have looked into a handful of unexplained infant deaths in the past couple of years. Several of these deaths had elements of unsafe sleep conditions that were explored, as well as other issues. In none of these cases did CPS or law enforcement find that parents neglected their infant by sharing a bed. There was never a consideration of removing other children from those households.
