The National Sleep Foundation (NSF) has elected Christopher Drake, PhD, and Charles Czeisler, PhD, MD, as foundation chair and vice chair (respectively) to lead its board of directors for a one-year term beginning July 1.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to serve as chair of the National Sleep Foundation,” said Drake. “The NSF will continue on its mission to improve sleep health and safety in this country. Too many people aren’t getting the sleep they need and want.”

Drake is an investigator at the Henry Ford Sleep Disorders and Research Center and associate professor of psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences at Wayne State University in Detroit. Czeisler is the Baldino professor and director of the Division of Sleep Medicine at Harvard Medical School, as well as chief of the Division of Sleep Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.

Other elected officials include Joseph Ojile, MD, president of the Clayton Sleep Institute, as secretary, and Daniel B. Brown, JD, managing shareholder of the Health Law Partners, LLC in Atlanta, as treasurer. Newly elected members of the board include Benjamin Gerson, MD, Lauren Hale, PhD, and Stephen H. Sheldon, DO.

“The National Sleep Foundation is fortunate in its ability to attract leading sleep scientists and clinicians to volunteer their expertise,” said David M. Cloud, NSF’s chief executive officer. “We are greatly honored that Dr Drake, Dr Czeisler, Dr Ojile, and Mr Brown have accepted leadership positions with the foundation, and that Drs Gerson, Hale, and Sheldon will be joining the board.”
