Fisher & Paykel Healthcare previewed its new ICON continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices for the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) at the SLEEP conference in San Antonio. The ICON range integrates the company’s technologies into stylish, compact, and intelligent devices to deliver a better night’s sleep for OSA patients.

The product range spans three models; Auto, Premo, and Novo. The Auto detects interruptions to normal breathing and provides the appropriate positive airway pressure to meet the breath-by-breath needs of the patient with full efficacy and compliance reporting. The Premo model provides fixed pressure therapy with efficacy and compliance reporting, while the Novo provides compliance reporting.

The ICON range includes Fisher & Paykel’s InfoSmart technologies, which will provide a full range of communication and compliance reporting options. The product range also includes ThermoSmart technology—a development at the forefront of Fisher & Paykel Healthcare’s humidification philosophy. Additional benefits include a front-facing digital clock with AlarmTunes for customizable alarms, intuitive patient-menu control, and other capabilities to enhance patient adaptation to CPAP therapy.

The F&P ICON Auto can be used as a titration and long-term treatment solution for patients, particularly those experiencing:
· Pressure intolerance
· Pressure requirements greater than 10 cm H2O
· REM or positional OSA
· Planned weight changes (eg, future bariatric surgery)
· Returning symptoms after long-term CPAP use

Another feature of the F&P ICON Auto is SensAwake, a technology with the ability to sense the pattern of irregular breathing that occurs at the transition from sleep to awake, and promptly reduces pressure to aid the transition back to sleep.
