Dental Sleep Solutions and Blackstone Medical Services have entered into a strategic partnership. The partnership between the organizations provides a seamless home sleep testing model for dental sleep medicine practitioners across the United States, the companies say.

Dentistry’s primary treatment modality for snoring and sleep apnea is oral appliance therapy. A barrier to entry has been getting the patients quickly tested. The Dental Sleep Solutions-Blackstone Medical Services partnership provides dental sleep medicine practices with a seamless sleep testing solution, including on-staff board certified sleep physicians who are available to answer questions, the companies say.

Additionally, Dental Sleep Solutions’ cloud-based DS3 System now allows dentists to order home sleep tests from Blackstone Medical with the click of a button. Once the study is completed, the report is uploaded by the Blackstone team into the Dentist’s DS3 System.

Vick Tipnes, CEO and founder of Blackstone Medical Services, says in a release, “We are extremely passionate about helping dentists deliver a better continuum of care to their patients. The correct delivery model for HST for dentists doesn’t really exist, so we are committed to creating the best options for them to deliver the best care to their patients—essentially to create that ideal model. Blackstone and DS3 are working on making the HST ordering process as simple and effective as possible for your practice, so you don’t have too much attention on testing and can focus on treatment. Additionally, Blackstone is actively working on another partnership to bring online physician consults for patients who require a physician to write a prescription for an HST.”

Jiten Master, DDS, Blackstone’s COO and a prosthodontist, left his dental practice because, in his words: “Dentists are well positioned to make an impact in the diagnosis and treatment of obstructive sleep apnea, a significantly under-diagnosed and life-threatening condition. When left unidentified and untreated, this condition has a high cost on the patient in terms of quality of life and significant sums of money to the healthcare system. As dentists we see our patients more frequently than our physician counterparts, and so we have the ability to effectively screen, identify, and educate patients. Blackstone’s purpose to reduce the barriers to sleep testing helps dentists, in turn help more of their patients.”
