Researchers at Washington University are conducting a study to determine if the disruption of the circadian rhythm in sleep is a factor in pre-term births, according to Fox 2 Now.

Dr. Emily Jungheim, the associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Wash-U, joins to explain the study!

She is focusing on disruptions in circadiam rythm that may lead to pre-term births. Women in the study have their melatonin and cortisol levels measured during pregnancy and also fill out a questionnaire that captures chronotype and social habits. They also wear activity watches to track their exercise and sleeping patterns.

Dr. Jungheim and her colleagues are looking for 100 women to participate in this study. The requirements are women who are trying to get pregnant.
