A Tyre blog discusses a new vibrating steering wheel developed by a British company to prevent fatigued driving and aid sleepy drivers.

A British company has designed a vibrating steering wheel that is designed to keep sleepy drivers awake. According to the company, the device can track a driver’s eye movements while driving. Specialists at ARM Holdings in Cambridge came up with the technology and it is designed to track ‘blink rates.’

The software and gadget consists of a camera that will be mounted on a vehicle’s rear-view mirror and wired into the car’s onboard computer. The camera will track the driver’s blinking, head position and eye alignment and compare it to images it has on record. Any change in the driver’s metrics will result in the software sending a message to the steering wheel and interior car alarm. The vibrating wheel and the interior car alarm is enough to wake up a drowsy driver and prevent accidents.
