New Zealanders are celebrating Safe Sleep Day on December 6, 2013, a day of awareness for SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, referred to as Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy in the island nation). The day raises awareness for SIDS, which is the cause of death for 60 babies a year in New Zealand, according to Safe Sleep Day’s website. The site offers educational videos for the proper way to position a baby for sleep and includes ways supporters can get involved to raise awareness for infant sleep safety.
