Munich-based company Milchkristalle GmbH produces “Nachtmilchkristalle” made from cow milk with a unique twist: It’s from cows milked at night. The “night milk crystals” company says the nighttime milking means the resulting milk (which is then crystalized) contains up to 20 times more melatonin than standard milk. Milchkristalle GmbH offers this “night milk” in crystallized form.

Tony Gnann, founder of Milchkristalle GmbH, says in a release, “We all know the problem of falling asleep, especially with temperatures like we have at the moment.” The company says that the lactose makes it easier for the body to access the melatonin, which it says accelerates the effectiveness of the product. The company says it also uses a patented light regime and special food so the cows produce the milk rich in melatonin. The milk is then dried by a gentle process at 30 degrees below zero, which the company says ensures the conservation of the sleep hormone with valuable proteins.
