The Fundamentals of Sleep and Associated Disorders for Nurses continuing education program is intended for advanced practice and nurses from all specialty areas, however special emphasis will be placed on cardiovascular, pediatrics, perioperative, occupational medicine and endocrine fields. Physician assistants, respiratory therapists, and sleep technologists may also find this a meaningful program.

Sleep is an important and often overlooked component to the health and well-being of individuals. Nurses work in all specialty areas and are in a unique position to promote sleep health and identify sleep disorders thus improving management of these conditions and improve patient outcomes.

This program is designed to provide a broad overview of sleep and associated disorders for nurses in all specialty areas to improve awareness and opportunities to integrate sleep into day to day practice.

Upon completion of this 2 day program, the attendee will be able to:

  1. Describe normal sleep
  2. Identify the most common sleep disorders
  3. Assess the impact of sleep disorders in chronic conditions
  4. Evaluate diagnostic options for sleep disorders
  5. Recognize the various therapeutic options for obstructive sleep apnea
  6. Consider concepts of sleep health and implications to nursing practice
