Onera Health’s first product for the sleep diagnostics market, the Onera Sleep Test System (STS), received two Red Dot Awards. The Onera Sleep Test System recently received a CE mark, allowing it to be marketed in Europe. The FDA has not yet made a decision on US clearance.

The international jury awarded Onera STS the distinction “Red Dot: Product Design 2021,” which stands for high design quality. Furthermore, the product won an award in the “Innovative Products” category, meaning that the jury members recognized the product’s novel features in particular.

Onera STS is a clinical-grade wireless patch-based sleep test that provides data from a remote sleep study. Once approved, it will be available in its primary configuration, consisting of the chest and the head sensors, and it will feature additional sensors in its complete configuration.

Ruben de Francisco, founder, CTO, and interim CEO, says in a release, “We are hugely honored that Onera has won the 2021 Red Dot Design Award. This is, without doubt, the most sought-after seal for outstanding design quality anywhere in the world. Onera will be in great company by the many iconic brands that won ‘the Oscars’ of the design world. Winning this prestigious award with our first generation is a remarkable achievement!”

Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot, says, “The winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 were particularly impressive this year. The design of their products is excellent, in terms of both the aesthetic and the functionality. It’s not easy to prevail in such a strong field of competitors and to win over our jury. Consequently, I want to congratulate the laureates very sincerely on their success.”

The Red Dot Award: Product Design dates back as far as 1955 and recognizes the best products for a given year. The roughly 50 jurors were once again true to the motto “In search of good design and innovation” in the 2021 competition. The international panel of experts comprises specialists from a wide variety of sectors. They scrutinized the products entered in the competition in a process that spanned several days.

“That our product was able to convince the jury not only in the “Medical Device” category but also in the “Innovative Products” meta category is an accolade that reflects the incredible work of our entire team. To know that the jurors recognize our commitment to advance sleep medicine by bringing diagnostics and monitoring into the patient’s home is an exceptional accomplishment. Recent times showed us how important it is to bring healthcare out of the hospital into our private spaces, and our user-friendly device is designed to support this development,” says de Francisco.

Onera STS can be seen in the online exhibition on the Red Dot website from June 21, 2021. That date also marks the beginning of the Red Dot Design Week, during which this year’s award winners will be celebrated online.

From June 22, 2021, Onera STS will also be included in the exhibition “Design on Stage” in the Red Dot Design Museum Essen, Germany, where all of the award-winning products are showcased. Visitors to the museum can experience the quality of the designs in a space that features contemporary design solutions and historical industrial architecture. The Red Dot Design Yearbook 2021/2022 comes out in August. The publication provides an overview of the state of the art and trends in product design.
