San Diego Union-Tribune: ResMed’s Mick Farrell urges chip manufacturers to prioritize CPAPs and other medical devices amidst the ongoing shortage.
Farrell has been on numerous Zoom calls recently urging semiconductor makers, in particular, to consider placing medical devices — such as ResMed’s ventilators, sleep apnea machines and other respiratory gear — toward the front of the line for shipments.
“I am definitely working with some of the biggest names out there and really asking, begging, pleading that we should prioritize medical devices over another cellphone, another electric car, another cloud-connected refrigerator,” he said.

A reccomendation made in the 9/29 Fmcsa Mrb meeting on the Phillips recall and its affect on truck drivers was to make use of the Defense Production Act. It would allow control of critical parts and supplies like semi conductor chips.
Problem is it would also give control over where finished product would be shipped.
ResMed had representatives in the meeting.
