Orphan Medical Receives FDA Approvable Letter
Orphan Medical Inc, Minneapolis, recently announced that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has completed its review of the new drug application for Xyrem® (sodium oxybate) oral solution. It was determined that the drug is approvable for the indication of cataplexy related to narcolepsy. On the basis of the initial review, the company estimates that it could meet the requirements outlined in the FDA’s Approvable Letter this year, which will be determined after they have met with the agency. The issues to be addressed include the need for a safety update of ongoing clinical trials and for an additional acute exposure trial in respiratory compromised patients.
