Healio: A survey by Itamar Medical found that 89% of respondents believe that they know what sleep apnea is, but they lack awareness of the wider implications of sleep apnea.

Results allow suggest a lack of awareness of the availability of safe and home-based diagnostic options, according to the press release.

The survey was conducted in November 2020 and assessed a representative sample of more than 1,000 U.S. adults.

According to the results, 33% of respondents reported that they were unaware they could significantly reduce health risks associated with cardiovascular disease, diabetes and stroke by treating sleep apnea. One-quarter of respondents reported that they were unaware that snoring may be a sign of a serious health issue or did not believe this to be true, according to the release.

In other survey results, 23% of respondents reported they would think twice before seeking medical help for sleep problems and 28% reported they would not seek medical care at all.
