The home sleep testing marketer also adds hypoxic burden as an auto-calculated metric.

BRAEBON has launched MediOX, a pulse oximeter with a chest-based body position sensor, a screening device that is small enough to fit in the palm of a hand and powered by a single  ½ AA lithium battery. It is intended as a screening device for sleep-breathing disorders, ideal for practitioners, including dentists and cardiologists.

MediOX is a simplified version of BRAEBON’s MediByte Junior type III home sleep test, which itself is a simplified version of the MediByte type III home sleep test.

“There are lots of pulse oximeters that go on your wrist and connect to your finger, but we decided to take a unique approach,” says Richard A. Bonato, PhD, RPSGT, founder and CEO of BRAEBON. “There’s definitely a market for something that’s simple, cost-effective, easy to use, and gives just pulse oximetry plus body position.”

The device is compatible with BRAEBON’s cloud-based sleep software, which auto-scores the MediOX. New to this launch: BRAEBON adds hypoxic burden as an auto-calculated metric. The practitioner gets a pulse oximeter and position report with auto-calculated oxygen desaturation index, hypoxic burden index, SpO2 graphs, and more.

MediOX Features

BRAEBON MediOX features include:

  • SPO2: SPO2 monitoring is used during sleep disorders studies as a quantitative measure of peripheral capillary oxygen saturation.
  • Pulse rate: Measurement of the number of times the heart beats per minute.
  • Body position: A 3-axis accelerometer built right in captures body position.
  • Photoplethysmograph: The detection of blood volume changes through the perfusion of the blood to the tissue of the skin. PPG is used to monitor heart rate and cardiac cycles through the pulse/ox finger probe on the MediOX.
  • Hypoxic burden index (HBI): HBI provides a more thorough evaluation of obstructive sleep apnea severity by taking into account the frequency, depth, and duration of oxygen desaturation events, which may help better identify high-risk individuals and enhance cardiovascular risk prediction.
  • MediOX cloud-based software: Compare the results of each follow-up sleep study using the home sleep testing management software, EasyHST. Monitor key data such as AHI, blood oxygenation, and snoring volume over time.
