Summary: Nonin Medical has launched the Nonin Health software platform to streamline overnight pulse oximetry workflows and enable remote data access for sleep medicine and respiratory care professionals. By replacing manual device handling and data transfer with a mobile app, Bluetooth connectivity, and a secure clinician portal, the platform reduces delays in diagnosis and therapy adjustments, cuts administrative workload, and improves device tracking.
Key takeaways:
- Via Nonin Health, clinicians gain immediate, secure access to results via a web portal, accelerating care decisions such as supplemental oxygen provision or oral appliance titration.
- The platform supports device inventory management, helping track and sync equipment with patient accounts.
- Patients use a mobile app (Android/iOS) connected to Nonin’s WristOx2 Model 3150 via Bluetooth for overnight SpO₂ monitoring.
- Early adopter CareLinc Medical Equipment reports reducing patient therapy assessment time by several days.
- The Nonin Health platform is currently available only in the United States.
Nonin Medical introduces the Nonin Health software platform, which is designed to simplify pulse oximeter workflows and enable remote access to data so that sleep physicians, sleep lab employees, dental sleep medicine practitioners, home medical equipment providers, and other healthcare professionals can deliver more timely therapy.
“Many homecare providers, respiratory care clinicians, and sleep specialists rely on overnight oximetry testing to assess the need for oxygen therapy or evaluate the effectiveness of sleep therapy,” says John Hastings, CEO at Nonin Medical, in a release. “However, this process often involves multiple manual steps, including shipping devices, retrieving and manually uploading data via USB, potential re-testing, and coordinating follow-up care. All of these tasks delay clinical decision-making and increase the workload for non-reimbursed services.”
The Nonin Health platform enables the remote delivery of overnight test results, reducing the need for physical pickups and minimizing delays in diagnosis. This facilitates the acceleration of the provision of supplemental oxygen for patients with chronic respiratory conditions and quicker oral sleep appliance titration, for example.
In addition, the Nonin Health software enables care providers to control their inventory of devices, ensuring all equipment is accounted for and synchronized with the correct patient accounts. The remote access to data and device inventory management can reduce administrative workload and retests.
The mobile app-based platform allows patients to run and complete overnight oximetry tests prescribed by their healthcare providers using Android or iOS devices. It connects to Nonin’s WristOx2 Model 3150 via Bluetooth, allowing users to sleep normally while the oximeter works in the background, measuring SpO2 levels. Clinicians have immediate remote access to study results via a secure web portal upon completion of the overnight test.
CareLinc Medical Equipment is one of the first customers to leverage the Nonin Health platform. “We’ve cut down the time it takes to assess a patient’s therapy needs by several days,” says Chrysalis Ashton, the director of clinical operations at CareLinc Medical Equipment, in a release.
Nonin Health is available exclusively within the United States. Future iterations may include support for additional markets, as well as expanded device compatibility.
By streamlining clinician workflows with centralized, cloud-based access to patients’ data, the solution marks Nonin Medical’s evolution from a hardware manufacturer to a full solution provider in remote patient care. “Co-developed in close collaboration with homecare providers and sleep professionals, Nonin Health is an example of an end-to-end software platform developed specifically to enhance patient care,” Hastings says.
