Amanda Saucedo, an Ohio mom who lost her son Ben, has launched Benny Bears, a non-profit group that aims to educate parents on safe sleep practices for babies, as reported by The Chronicle-Telegram.

“When Ben did die, the coroner came to the house,” Saucedo said. “He put on the death certificate that Bed died because of accidental suffocation. That’s a horrible thing to live with. You don’t stop beating yourself up. I don’t want anyone to have to live with that guilt.”

Benny Bears aims to get blue stuffed bears into all of the area hospitals maternity wards. Each bear will have information about safe sleep practices, and about Ben.

“A couple of weeks after Ben died, I ordered two bears to put his ashes in,” Saucedo said, “one for me and one for my son. My family and friends raised money for the funeral expenses, and there was enough left over that I wanted to do something to prevent deaths like these from happening again.”
