The American Sleep Apnea Association (ASAA) is looking for sleep apnea patients and the families to write to their members of Congress to help secure additional funding for the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The funding would help add questions on sleep and sleep disorders to CDC health surveys, which, in turn, would help get a better idea of the magnitude of the problem of sleep apnea in the United States. Further understanding of OSA could lead Congress to deploy additional resources to address this problem.

The strongest particular interest in the advocacy action program is in getting Illinois residents to write to their Congress people. Senator Richard J. Durbin (D-Ill), who sits on the subcommittee that has jurisdiction over CDC funding, has expressed an interest on the subject of additional funding for the CDC.

Other interested parties that would like to assist in the advocacy action program in any way possible are encouraged to visit the association’s legislative action center to learn more.
