The HST aims to improve collaboration between dentists and sleep physicians by offering real-time data visibility.
Key takeaways:
- Nihon Kohden is expanding its NomadAir with Connect HST to the dental sleep medicine market to support oral appliance therapy workflows.
- A recent prospective study showed the system achieved a 98% overall success rate and a 95% first-night completion rate.
- The device features built-in cellular connectivity for automatic data uploads, allowing real-time monitoring and shared visibility between dentists and sleep physicians.
Nihon Kohden is expanding the reach of NomadAir with Connect, its home sleep test system, into the field of dental sleep medicine. It highlighted the solution at its booth on the tradeshow floor of the recent American Academy of Dental Sleep Medicine Annual Meeting in Chicago from May 1 to 3.
The expansion addresses the growing collaboration between dentists and sleep physicians in treating obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) with oral appliance therapy. By enabling at-home testing with shared visibility into study status and results, NomadAir with Connect supports a more streamlined referral relationship between providers.
In a 30-day prospective study of 186 consecutive patients conducted at a Florida partner site from Nov 5 to Dec 4, 2025, the system achieved a 95% first-night completion rate and a 98% overall success rate with zero technical malfunctions and 2% patient errors causing failure (data internally on file at Nihon Kohden).
“We’ve spent 70 years building diagnostic tools that clinicians trust. Bringing that expertise to dental sleep medicine means dentists and sleep physicians can finally work from the same data, in real time, without the friction that slows care down,” says Scott Blodgett, national vice president, neurology sales at Nihon Kohden America, LLC, in a release. “By connecting the entire care team through shared visibility, we’re helping providers keep patients on track and move more quickly from diagnosis to treatment.”
NomadAir with Connect features built-in cellular connectivity for automatic data uploads without requiring apps or device pairing. It integrates with Polysmith software and supports electronic medical record connectivity. The system allows for wrist or chest placement, records up to three nights per battery charge, and is compatible with PAP titration studies.
Through the WatchTower platform, providers can access real-time insights and performance monitoring, while WatchTower Maps enables device location tracking to assist with asset management and reduce loss. Connected capabilities can also be enabled on earlier-generation NomadAir devices through a SIM-based upgrade.
