Spatial Sleep uses facial-scan–based sound and vibration profiles to deliver a customized, nonpharmacologic approach to calming the mind at bedtime.
Key takeaways:
- SoundSleep Health launches Spatial Sleep, which uses machine-learning facial mapping to create personalized acoustic and vibration profiles.
- Dual bone conduction transducers deliver low-frequency harmonics tailored to the user’s craniofacial anatomy.
- The device runs a 45-minute session at bedtime and then shuts off automatically.
- Clinicians note its individualized approach may enhance effectiveness without pharmacologic side effects.
- The headband is FSA/HSA-eligible and pairs with a mobile app for nighttime and daytime use.
SoundHealth has launched Spatial Sleep, a personalized acoustic sleep headband that leverages slow, rhythmic sounds and gentle vibrations that the company states naturally resonate with brainwave activity, calming the mind and promoting rest.
Spatial Sleep is based on proprietary Acoustic Sleep Harmonization technology. This technology uses a smartphone selfie facial scan to generate personalized harmonies and gentle vibrations that are tailored to the user’s craniofacial anatomy. Machine learning models map key anatomical landmarks from the user’s face to generate a personalized acoustic profile. This profile shapes the harmonies and vibrations delivered through the dual bone conduction transducers in the headband, creating a rich set of low frequency overtones and harmonics that are customized to each user’s head shape.
“This is an exciting step forward in nonpharmacological approaches to improving sleep,” says pulmonologist Elan Hekier, MD, at Sharp Rees-Stealy San Diego, in a release.
“The approach is unique in that it offers a customized solution for each individual, making the therapy more targeted and potentially more effective,” says Robson Capasso, MD, a professor of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery and (by courtesy) psychiatry and sleep medicine at Stanford University, in a release.
The Spatial Sleep headband is worn at bedtime. It delivers a personalized harmony session for 45 minutes before automatically shutting off. The headband is designed for maximum comfort and employs precision bone conduction, so users feel the calming resonance.
The Spatial Sleep app is designed to support both nighttime rest and daytime performance.
“Most sleep products either sedate you or drown you in noise, and have lasting side effects,” says Paramesh Gopi, PhD, CEO of SoundHealth, in a release. “Spatial uses the world’s largest living craniofacial dataset to create a zero-side-effect acoustic wearable tuned to your facial structure. We’re working with your neurobiology to help you fall asleep naturally and wake up refreshed.”
The Spatial Sleep headband is FSA/HSA-eligible and retails for $319. The companion app is available on the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
