SUMMARY:Sleep Medicine Disruptors
DESCRIPTION:On Friday and Saturday, Nov 3–4, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine will host its third Sleep Medicine Disruptors event to continue exploring the innovations that are poised to change the landscape of sleep health, patient care, and health care delivery. For the first time, the educational event will be held in the heart of Silicon Valley at the Ameswell Hotel in Mountain View, California, and it will be live-streamed to a virtual audience around the world.\nDuring this dynamic, two-day course, sleep physicians, health technology innovators, and health care thought leaders will provide strategic insight into the future of sleep care. Expert speakers will discuss how artificial intelligence, consumer sleep technology, other disruptive technologies, and innovative models of care will change the status quo.\n“Widespread innovation throughout the sleep health ecosystem is producing an abundance of consumer and clinical devices, therapeutics, systems, and strategies that have the potential to transform the delivery of sleep care,” says course chair Azizi Seixas, director of The Media and Innovation Lab and chair of the department of informatics and health data science at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, in a release. “Since disruption is part of Silicon Valley’s DNA, we’re excited to bring Sleep Medicine Disruptors to Mountain View, where sleep clinicians, technology innovators, and venture capitalists can share ideas and learn from one another in a collaborative environment.”\nKeynote addresses will be provided by Dr Zeev Neuwirth, a health care executive and visionary leader in clinical care transformation, and Sally Dominguez, a futurist, inventor, and entrepreneur with expertise in exponential systems and “moonshot” thinking. With more than a dozen speakers, the diverse panel will represent wide-ranging areas of expertise and will feature several of the brightest minds in Silicon Valley, including:\n\nDr Logan Schneider, clinical specialist at Alphabet\nJonathan Berent, founder and CEO of NextSense\nErin Flynn-Evans, director of the Fatigue Countermeasures Laboratory at NASA Ames Research Center\nMike Masterson, co-founder and managing partner of Supermoon Capital\n\n“I am thrilled to bring Sleep Medicine Disruptors to Silicon Valley, where we will leverage the expertise of innovative thinkers to explore the future of the sleep medicine specialty,” says AASM executive director Steve Van Hout in a release. “The AASM is committed to advancing sleep care, and this event will challenge attendees to reimagine how sleep disorders are diagnosed and treated.”\nThe Ameswell Hotel is located at 800 Moffett Boulevard near Google, Apple, and Facebook headquarters, as well as offices for Microsoft, Intuit, and LinkedIn. Inspired by its neighbors at NASA’s Ames Research Center, the independent hotel combines art, nature, innovation, and technology to create an ideal environment for the event’s focus on exploration and discovery.\nFor more information, watch the event trailer on YouTube.
